The PTSA Committee consists of the following members: Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Communications, Events, Second-hand Uniform and Neighbourhood Reps Coordinators. Some Committee positions may be shared between one or more people.


Andrée Grindlay

The PTSA Chair has the responsibility to lead the Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) of the British International School of    

   Houston. The Chair must adhere to the aims of the PTSA and should:

  • Preside at all PTSA meetings.
  • Report regularly to all PTSA Members.
  • Oversee PTSA events.
  • Insure compliance with the purpose of the PTSA.
  • Delegate duties, as required, to other PTSA Committee members and working groups.
  • Maintain responsibility for other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the Committee.
  • Delegate the work of the organisation to other officers as required.
  • Coordinate the work of the elected Committee Members and working groups so that the purpose the PTSA is met.
  • Prepare an operational calendar with the Events Coordinator.

Diane McNae

The Treasurer has the following responsibilities:

  • Receive all monies of this organisation and keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures.
  • Place all monies in the PTSA bank account.
  • Pay out funds in accordance with the budget as approved by the membership and authorized by a properly signed cheque request, and original documentation such as invoice or receipt.
  • Make available a written financial statement at every meeting of the organisation and at other times as requested by the Committee.

Marguérite Mensonides

The Secretary has the following responsibilities:

  • Record the minutes of all PTSA Committee general membership meetings, and maintain historical records for five years.
  • Maintain a current copy of the PTSA by-laws.
  • Conduct correspondence of the organization as directed.

The Events Coordinators have the following responsibilities:

  • Work with the School community to ensure that PTSA events are on the school calendar and can be planned well ahead of time.
  • Form event working groups as required with clear aims and responsibilities.
  • Appoint members to working groups.
  • Coordinate the event working groups to ensure the aims of the events are met and timelines are realistic.
  • Effect communications between the event working groups and the board.
  • Work with the communications coordinator to ensure that all events are publicised and marketed well in advance.

Charissia van Lelyveld

The Neighbourhood Coordinator has the following responsibilities:

  • Work with and assist the Primary and Secondary Schools Neighbourhood Representatives in their duties.
  • Ensure the Neighbourhood Representatives are kept informed of PTSA events.

Isabelle Heil

The Communications coordinator has the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee the look and content of all PTSA Communications prior to distribution.
  • Ensure that all events are publicised and marketed well in advance.
  • Oversee all PTSA marketing.

The second-hand uniform coordinators have the following responsibilities:

  • Collect second-hand uniforms dropped off at the school
  • Maintain stocks of second-hand uniforms
  • Organise the sale of second-hand uniforms throughout the year and at PTSA events.
  • Maintain a record of all uniform sales for sales tax purposes

Note: this role is really only suitable for someone that is at the school regularly so they can arrange to meet parents at the school that have requested to purchase items of second-hand uniform.

The BISH PTSA is the diverse community of parents, staff and students at the British International School of Houston, a Nord Anglia School.

25% of all funds raised by the BISH PTSA go to a charity chosen each year by the school council. Last year, it was Brookwood Community.
